Donna Beam’s “Sensibility” gets big response

“Extreme Sensibility,” the latest show at the Donna Beam Fine Art Gallery, was recently featured in articles in both the Las Vegas Weekly and CityLife magazines, with the former written by the department’s own MFA student Jenessa Kenway.

WiFi service arrives at Grant Hall

Hotspots for WiFi service have now been installed for students and faculty on the second floor of Grant Hall, both in the computer lab at room 246 and the B- and C-corridor of the building containing faculty offices, Bachelor of Fine Arts student studios, and Master of Fine Arts student studios.

Vagus Nerve accepting art submissions

Interested in seeing your artwork in print? The Vagus Nerve is currently accepting undergraduates’ visual art submissions—as well as literary and video/performance submissions—for their Fall 2009 edition. Submissions are due September 30. Applications are available on the third floor of the Student Union, or can be downloaded here.

Welcome Students

Welcome back new and returning students.
New students should attend the College of Fine Arts Orientation on August 21.
The Department also welcomes our new Chair, Professor Mark Burns; Helga Watkins is serving as Associate Chair. We are pleased to have Dr. Louisa McDonald back with us after her sabbatical.

Next BFA candidate group determined

The 2009-2010 Bachelor of Fine Arts candidate class has now been determined by the faculty. While official notification letters are still forthcoming, please contact BFA Coordinator Mark Burns either in person or by email for notification of acceptance into the program.

Salomon Huerta lecture

Salomon Huerta, Los Angeles based painter, featured in Whitney Biennial and recently on the cover of art ltd. magazine will give a lecture at UNLV on Tuesday, March 17th at 3:30pm in Grant Room 129.

Congratulations Arts Grants Recipients 2009

Mary Warner received a Nevada Arts Council Artist Fellowship award in visual arts, and Brent Sommerhauser received an Honorable Mention Fellowship Award.

Adelaide Fringe Festival 2009
