Robert Wysocki
Artist Statement
Art Making

The continual growth and exhibition of my work is very important to me. As a sculptor and conceptual artist, I work formally as well as with newer genres such as text, digital film, digital output, painting, drawing, etc. My work is an autobiographical examination of the Northern California agricultural landscape I grew up in. The elements of my work are located in streams of memory: the heroic landscape-paintings, sand dunes, faults, water; the hero-The Scarecrow, Jeff Smith Theory; tools of the hero-Mighty Tonkas, the trains. All of my work is linked and codified within the continuously evolving text piece, FTP. I build most of my work by hand and very much enjoy the experimentation and exploration that define my process. My work has been shown in museums, galleries and outdoor public areas. In the last three years, I have exhibited: in Las Vegas at UNLV and the City of Las Vegas Reed-Whipple Gallery, on three prominently placed I-15 billboards in and around Greater Las Vegas for four months, in Reno, NV at the Nevada Museum of Art’s 2005 Triennial, on a billboard in southern Utah on I-15, at Lehmann Maupin Gallery, New York, NY, at T1+2 Gallery, London, England and most recently a solo exhibition at Fringe Exhibitions in Los Angeles, CA. I have an upcoming solo exhibition in 2008 at Flight 19 as part of the “MashUp” Show at the University of South Florida Contemporary Art Museum in Tampa, Florida. I will be creating a large sand dune with a series of fans, using 50+ tons of sand from the Tampa area. In late 2008/early 2009 I am tentatively scheduled for a show at my gallery, Fringe Exhibitions in Los Angeles, CA.
