Kirsten Swenson teaches courses in contemporary art history, criticism, and theory. Her scholarship focuses on minimal and conceptual art and their legacies, performance and performative strategies in art of the 1960s and 1970s, and feminist theory. She writes on these topics, among others, for Art in America, and her work has appeared in academic journals including American Art, Critical Matrix: The Princeton Journal of Women, Gender, and Culture, and The Woman's Art Journal. Professor Swenson's doctoral dissertation, completed in 2006, was on the sculptor Eva Hesse. She was a Predoctoral Fellow at the Smithsonian American Art Museum, and a Teaching Fellow at the Whitney Museum of American Art. Prior to UNLV, she taught modern and contemporary art history at Case Western Reserve University, SUNY, and NYU.
