I never wanted it to be like this, either
I never wanted it to be like this, either is ostensibly a celebration of the 50th birthday of Grant Hall, but provides a wealth as a commentary on the campus facility that has been hated, neglected, and derided, but also treated as the main home of the art program nearly since since its inception. The event is too be held on Sunday, April 26, 2009, from 11:30 to 1:00 PM—precisely 50 years removed from the original cornerstone laying ceremony that marked the opening of what was then known only as the “Education Building” at the University of Nevada, Southern Regional Division campus.
Put on 2008-2009 BFAs Stephanie Potell and Sean Schumacher, two collaborating student artists with a mutual dedication to finding the unusual in the mundane of Grant Hall, the centerpiece of I never wanted it to be like this, either involves a permanent site-specific installation allowing for explanation and exploration of the building, both past and present. The party itself will also include all the traditional birthday niceties, if only slightly skewed in deference of the facility they’re recognizing.
Those wishing to share the event with others or reserve their space for the party early may RSVP on Facebook
.
Though the party will end at 1:00 PM on Sunday, the show will remain open through Monday and precedes the 2009 BFA Exhibition.
