Congratulations Arts Grants Recipients 2009
Mary Warner received a Nevada Arts Council Artist Fellowship award in visual arts, and Brent Sommerhauser received an Honorable Mention Fellowship Award.
Encouraging and supporting the work of Nevada’s exceptional artists, the Nevada Arts Council (NAC) awarded nine $5,000 Artist Fellowships for Fiscal Year 2009; three each in Literary Arts, Performing Arts and Visual Arts. In addition to using the grant award to produce art during the fellowship year, each fellow provides a free public event relevant to his or her discipline, through readings, exhibitions, performances, and master classes. The Artist Services Program, which oversees Artist Fellowships, also awards a $500 grant to the top three honorable mentions in each category.
During a series of public meetings in June 2008, panelists reviewed 128 applications; 57 in literary arts, 14 in performing arts and 57 in visual arts. The panels selected 18 artists for fellowships and honorable mention grants, which the NAC Board considered and approved.
