The Clouds Are After Me
Kambui Olujimi
Opening Preview Reception for the Artist: Thursday, September 4, 7-9pm
Exhibition: September 5 – September 25
Main Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of an exhibition by Brooklyn-based artist Kambui Olujimi, The Clouds Are After Me. This is a project consisting of approximately 300 small painted collages which are in dialog with the nation’s climate of perpetual fear. Through a series of images Olujimi “draws parallels to the ‘elusive’, ‘ever present dangers’ which we are both running from and hunting for.” The project will be exhibited simultaneously at three venues across the nation, with approximately 50 works being shown at Main Gallery. The other two locations are Branch Gallery in North Carolina and DAAP Gallery at the University of Cincinnati.
Kambui Olujimi has exhibited widely throughout the US at prominent galleries and museums; this includes the MOMA in New York, Museum of Contemporary Art in LA, the Brooklyn Museum of Art, the Smithsonian Institute: Anacostia Museum, and the Studio Museum in Harlem. His work has been featured in major art publications such as Art Forum, Art in America, and Flash Art. Olujimi recently attended the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture and previously received his BFA from the Parsons School of Design in 2002.
